Greeneville Hamfest will sponsor an exam session at 10 am on the stage. Listen for announcements on Saturday morning for information about the exams.
If you are unlicensed or do not have a FRN (GMRS licensees have a FRN) you must have an FRN from the FCC for each person taking an exam. If you do not have one, please visit this website and register for one. It only takes a few minutes and there is no charge for it. https://apps.fcc.gov/cores/html/know.html
All applicants will be required to register for the exam through HamStudy.org on the day of the exam if not pre-registered.
Pre-registration is now open at this link. https://hamstudy.org/sessions/69b383b2a7de3d68daca2b1d/1
Make sure your email is up to date with the FCC as all FCC correspondence is now done with email.
Please bring an official copy of your current FCC Amateur license (must come from the ULS License Manager), any CSCE’s, your FRN if unlicensed, and a valid ID. Cost to take the exam in 2026 is currently $5 (exact change appreciated). There is an additional $35 fee charged by the FCC that you must submit through their website after you are notified your application is pending. The FCC will not process your application until this fee is paid.
There is no additional charge if you pass or fail an exam and then want to take the next higher class license exam or retest.
Anyone under the age of 18 is exempt from the exam fee. ARRL will also pay the FCC fee for first time licensees for anyone under 18.
You must register at Hamstudy.org and have it accepted in order to take the exam. This can be done the day of the Hamfest, or even in line at the exam but it must be accepted before you can take the exam. You can register by clicking this link:
